Minho and Thomas explain the cliff experiment to Alby and Newt , and Newt responds by explaining that the entire glade is falling apart, because now that the sky is gray and they have no sun the plants won’t grow, and the weekly supplies haven’t come up either.
I wonder if when that girl telepathically told Thomas she triggered the ending, that the ending means the creators have given up on them since they were taking too long to find an exit out of the maze and that’s why they are not sending supplies and took out the sun.
The girl has woken up .Thomas runs to the forest area of the glade , and sits against a tree , not wanting to see her in fear of hearing the voice again. The girl however, sneaks out of the building and finds Thomas. They have a discussion , and she admits she doesn’t know why she can talk to him telepathically or why she said those things.
How did she know where Thomas was? If she doesn’t know why she can talk to him telepathically how did she figure out how to do it? I think that when she was telepathically speaking to him, her memory was not wiped entirely.
Reading about all this memory wiping made me wonder if it is possible to wipe someones memory in real life which lead me to a study, where scientists were able to wipe a rats memory. “We can form a memory, erase that memory and we can reactivate it, at will, by applying a stimulus that selectively strengthens or weakens synaptic connections,” the image above is an image from the study.
In the middle of this discussion , Newt and Alby run up to Thomas, telling him the walls haven’t closed for the night, thus allowing the grievers free to roam in the glade. Teresa(the girl) admits she triggered the ending , and Alby throws her in the slammer.
Have the creators really gave up on them? Why did Alby throw her in jail? What does Alby believe he will get out of throwing her in jail? Will Teresa be safe in the jail?
Alby and Newt make plans to help protect the gladers by ordering the builders to try and barricade the entrances of the maze and ordering everyone else to get all the weapons, food and people into the main building (the homestead) for the night. Minho goes to do a “special task”. During all of this, Thomas has a realization that Alby is definitely not the same, he’s moodier and grumpy all the time.
the image to the left is what I think reflects Alby’s mood
I thought it was really smart they are able to quickly think on their feet when given a situation, and they automatically they knew what has to be done in order to survive, instead of panicking for hours or giving up. If it was me in that position, I think I would come to the same solution as well, just not as fast.
If Alby was still the same would he have still thrown Teresa in jail? Why has the changing changed Alby? Are the grievers going to come in and kill all of them? Maybe Alby is grumpy and moody because he realized life outside of the glade and life inside of the glade are the same.
During the night the boys have a discussion that the runners should stay in the maze overnight, since its the same as being in the glade now, and an exit may open up during the night that’s not there in the day. Alby decides to go study the maps and be useful to the group and leaves. Shortly after, they all try to sleep when they hear grievers outside of the building , tearing at the building.
to the right is an image of what I believe the maps look like
All of a sudden Gally comes out of nowhere , dirty and bruised with torn clothing, yelling that the grievers will take them all one by one due to the variables. Gally then opens the window to let the griever in , only to then throw himself onto the griever afterwards. The grievers than all took Gally into the maze and left. They then realize there is smoke coming out of the map room , and Alby has been attacked, with a cut on his head. The capsules that hold the maps have been burned.
Thomas is concerned because he finally figured out a pattern in the maps, but Minho reassures him saying that the “special task” he did, was exchange the maps into a hidden room so nothing could happen to them. Thomas thinks there is a code hidden in the maps , like letters.
They all get to work , tracing the maps to put together to see if Thomas is right, and soon shows it reveals a letter F. As they do more it reveals the words FLOAT and CATCH. Minho and Thomas decide to go out to the maze at night to investigate while other people pick up where they left off. While running in the maze Thomas figures out that if he focuses he can telepathically talk back to Teresa and decides to keep it a secret so that the other boys will not get freaked out.
If I was in Thomas’s decision, I wouldn’t tell them either because I don’t think they would be able to understand it, or even believe what you’re saying. I think that if someone told me they could speak telepathically but only to one girl who they don’t remember but they don’t have any proof, It would hard for me to believe as well, especially with all the stress and problems they are going through right now. Although, I can also understand the benefits to telling them because they could formulate a plan using their telepathy to their advantage.
